from Wicked
Winner of over 50 major awards including the Grammy Award and three Tony Awards®, WICKED is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” Wicked has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.” Time Magazine cheers, “if every musical had the brain, the heart, and the courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place.”

Declared “The Best Musical of the Decade” by Entertainment Weekly and “A Cultural Phenomenon” by Variety, WICKED is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Joe Mantello with musical staging by Wayne Cilento.

This show is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes (1 intermission). Recommended for ages 8 years and up. Children under 5 years will not be permitted in the theatre.

My daughter planned our NYC trip around "Wicked" . She has always wanted to see this show. We got the most inexpensive seats in the house and we were high up. (Unfortunately in the row behind us, there were about six people, who were foreign, Russian? who had zero manners and talked the entire 2nd act, even after 4 people told to be quiet. Beyond rude and were ruining it for my 9 year old granddaughter, until my oldest daughter, who is a teacher, turned around and talked to them like students misbehaving and then they shut up. Had it not been more disruptive to others, I'd have gotten up to speak to an usher. It was a full house and only THEY were talking in the entire theatre....but I digress) I knew nothing about the show going in and was blown away. Defying Gravity was everything it was touted to be. Tears flowed from my girls it was so moving. I liked the duet they sang at the end too. It was so well written, I was really impressed with the book. Production was fabulous all the way. Needed a tad more dancing but the leads were beyond good. I wished we would have been a little closer so my granddaughter could have seen their faces a little closer. The theatre is very nice and comfortable. This show will be hard to top and I cannot recommend it enough.

Took my Cadette Troop from Boston to NYC for 2 nights, saw the show and had a workshop the next day through Student Live. Awesome show. Great workshop. Girls loved it. We had great seats, too. Side Front Mezzanine. After the show we waited at the Stage door and the Wizard of Oz came out and patiently made it's way down the whole row. On our way to the Subway we ran into Glinda and the girls were super excited to get a selfie with her. We had a great time.

"Third time at WICKED!!!!"

Last night I saw WICKED for the third time with my 7 year old daughter. We have seen it 2x in New York and 1x in London. We (both) love the music and the story is easy for her to follow. Since she has seen the show she can now sit through The Wizard of Oz movie less frightened (even though the flying monkeys still freak me out!). The reason i am giving it 4 stars is because i am sick and tired of going to broadway shows and 15 minutes into it the side door opens and the late patrons arrive. When you are spending $125 - $220 per ticket it really annoys me that the theater doesn't make them wait until intermission to enter. Too bad they are so late - the ticket has the time listed on it. I think if the theaters started to implement this policy people would not order "one more cocktail" and arrive in a timely fashion. Isn't it enough that before every show they have to ask the audience to silent their phones?? This behavior is disruptive to the audience and puts a damper on the NYC theater experience.
