Description

from School of Rock
Based on the hit film, School of Rock follows Dewey Finn (Alex Brightman in what The Hollywood Reporter calls “a hilarious, star-making performance”). A failed, wannabe rock star, Dewey decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out? While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within.

This high-octane smash delivers face-melting guitar riffs performed live by an incredibly talented cast of youngsters and touching romance in equally awesome doses! Featuring 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and all the original songs from the movie, School of Rock is a full-throttle tribute to the power of music. The Huffington Post raves, “Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical blows the roof off the theater!” and Time Out New York cheers, “School’s in – FOREVER!”

“For those about to love School of Rock, we salute you!” (Time Out New York). This hit Broadway musical is a New York Times Critics’ Pick and “an inspiring jolt of energy, joy and mad skillz!” (Entertainment Weekly). Reuters raves ”Andrew Lloyd Webber has Broadway rocking!”

This show is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes (1 intermission). Recommended for ages 8 years and up.

Let me say first: Watching Jonathan Wagner, i was watching Jack Black...seriously. I had front row tickets having entered the 'lottery' on the website for the Wednesday 10/1/18 matinee performance (enter on website 12am-9am on morning of performance) and paid $39 each. What a treat! I have been to 17 musicals in the last 3yrs and had seen the Lion King the night before.... this was the best of the lot in my humble opinion and for a fraction of the price. Not only did i believe i was watching Jack Black (this may have been helped by being front row, but this guy is the best!), the whole cast was top notch. The lady playing the headmistress, wow she could belt out some tunes, the kids just hilarious and were perfectly cast. I enjoyed every single second, as did my fiancee and particulary a couple a few rows back.... I must admit though, alot of the audience were alot more muted... maybe they hadnt seen the film, were not into the rock music or maybe they were the more refined theatre goer... i dont know... but i can only mention it my review to warn those who have no sense of fun/humour or music taste to maybe go to somewhere more suited!!!! I was worried that if the lead was trying to be like Jack Black and got it wrong, then this might have been not for me.... Fortunately, this guy is a gem and his supporting cast could not have been better..... An absolute joy from start to finish in my book.

The School of Rock rocked our world. Three generations rocked the night away - Granny, Mum and Dad, and three children (all under 10) loved every moment. Great first Broadway experience for the littlest one. Thank you for a great night!

I was lucky to get discounted tickets through TKTS on Christmas Day while in NYC with our boys ( ages 7 & 9 ). It was their first Broadway Show, and it was wonderful. My 7 year old was mesmerized, and I will always remember the look on his face! We especially loved seeing the kids performing - they were amazing!

Hi, we took our 14 & 16 year olds to see the show and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a great theatre steeped in history, the set was fabulous and the cast wonderful. It’s a fast past show with lots of energy. The music is quite rocky and loud but not overpowering. I’m far from calling myself a rock fan however I really enjoyed the show and would recommend for a fun feel good evening out.

"Watch the Movie Instead - It's way better!"

Sorely disappointed in the theater production as it merely mimicked the movie which was in fact, very good and a personal favorite. The sad attempt at a few inconsequential changes in character roles did little to mask the mediocrity of the stage production. Leading up to the performance I felt shear excitement given my love for the movie but alas, was deflated by this lack luster outright, line for line, copy of the funny and entertaining experience that the movie provided. Save your $$$ and watch the movie instead and plan to spend on other shows that add dimension to beloved movies. Finding Neverland, Wicked and other truly great productions are fine example of enriching adaptations and story line continuity rather than merely mediocre copies.
