"The best you'll get in the heart of Times Square"

Having stayed at Marriott East End prior to checking into the W in Times Square, it felt like an immediate upgrade already. I've noticed with NYC hotels how bizarrely backed up elevator lines get, and how many people end up waiting for an elevator at a time! But at the W Times Square, I thankfully never once encountered this issue. Check-in was swift, and our rooms were ready. We had received an upgrade, and the suite was very spacious with a nice view of Times Square. Obviously, people will book this place with the location in mind (aka my family, who were there to enjoy all the touristy spots and they were happy), but it was a little inconvenient for me as my friends, restaurants and parties just all happened to be downtown/in the Soho area. Uber rides downtown cost approximately 22 USD each time one way (25 mins), but of course you can easily take the subway down too. Bear in mind also that the location means a lot of noise from the streets below! I can sleep through most of everything though, so it didn't bother me much. One issue I had was with the "complimentary" breakfast at Blue Fin - the SPG platinum breakfast includes a continental breakfast, plus add ons that you have to pay for (e.g. pancakes, avocado toast or breakfast sandwich at USD$12 each). The "complimentary" part of the menu was a purely continental menu that held nothing of interest to me (bread, cereal, juice) because I of course wanted a hearty American breakfast every morning with eggs, hash browns and pancakes. I ended up ordering from the a la carte menu every time, and I must admit the quality was amazing. Just keep in mind that breakfast is NOT in the typical all-you-can-eat buffet style. Other than that small misunderstanding, the accommodation aspect of the hotel was spot on.

I am clearly not the W Times Square demographic. I came for a baby shower & to spend time w family & friends. Apart from the craziness outside the doors, which was to be expected my issues were with the room. It was dimly lit which made dressing for a party difficult even with the lights on ( made more problematic because when I tried to open the blinds they got stuck in the down position. The bathroom has glass walls which I don't get ( I had friends over and we went "who would want that?" ) And the make up mirror in bathroom didn't work. There are no amenities ( by that I mean other than Bliss body wash & shampoo no shower cap, cotton ball, Q tip etc. which, and I travel ALOT, I found just weird. Hallways are dimly lit as well. On the other hand The lobby was hopping. Loud music & packed w people--- As for sleeping I could hear the street noise the entire night even on the 19th floor. Would I stay there again? No

This hotel has its pluses and minuses. On the plus side it is conveniently located for the theater district, within walking distance to other points of interest in NYC and close to the Metro. On the minus side the rooms are small and dark and the hallways and common areas are very dark and in need of refurbishing. There is not a single drawer in the room (I guess that's the modern aspect of a W Hotel). Housekeeping also leaves something to be desired. The first day we were there, they skipped one of our rooms entirely (we had two adjoining rooms) and provided no towels in the room they cleaned. The Lobby is on the 7th floor and the bar in the lobby is very active, some might say noisey but it depends on your perspective. There two restaurants associated with the hotel and we had breakfast at the Blue Fin twice and it was very nice. We also ordered room service when we first arrived because we got to the hotel so late (after11pm) and the food was good and arrived promptly. The staff at the front desk and at the street level entrance are very friendly and accomodating and so are the maintenance personnel.

"W Times Square...I'll pass"

Upon arrival, you enter into an elevator bank. I can clearly read English and knew to go directly to the elevator. There were many guest from various different countries in the foyer area and none had a clue where they were supposed to go! The lobby has a W vibe and it's all fine a good. The bar - NO FOOD. I repeat NO FOOD. Only drinks. The bartender was lovely and the sauvignon blac was delightful, but NO FOOD! (Yes they have two restaurants on property - but I am a business traveler - eating at the bar is ideal. Now on to the room - I think my standards are entirely out of line lately, but this W was quite dirty. I don't think they vacuumed prior to my stay. I also don't think they have taken very good seals around the bathroom tile or shower...mold is unexceptionable. The plus - big room for NYC and pretty quiet! I was rather disappointed that I was charged for two nights. My flight was canceled on Sunday and I called prior to their cancellation requirement to explain that I would not be there until Monday. I think they tried to play it off as some early guarantee check-in option, but I didn't really need to check in early. I think this is a downfall of the mobile check-in. I wouldn't recommend using it if you think you may have flight issues...700 bucks for 2 nights - I didn't even spend 24 hours at this property. I'm going back to the Sheraton from now on...I'd pass on this one.

"Average for the price"

The location is literally right next to Times Square so it doesn't get any more convenient if you're doing touristy things. The amenities in the room are nice, everything is well decorated, but it felt a little old. The bathroom sliding door was difficult to maneuver and did not have a lock on it. Not a huge deal just a minor inconvenience. The parking lot that they associate with is about 3 blocks away and it was difficult to find. All in all, it was ok - I wasn't amazed by the service or amenities, given the price. But you're paying for a very nice location.
