"So-so, you can do better for the price"

Hotel was okay but my expectations were high for a W, and because the hotel was $700 a night. Room was clean and bed was comfortable, but small. Surprised there really wasn’t an on-site restaurant, which I had expected with a W.

"The worst ever W experience "

I tried to book this hotel to experience the ball drop moment of New Year’s Eve at time squares. However, I didn’t got the luck to see that, I got a series of unfortunate surprises. 1. From the moment you arrive at the hotel, nobody helped me carry my luggage or anything, no warm greetings but a mess. That’s fine, tourist place. 2. In the lobby, have to wait a long queue to get check in. Front desk asked me to swipe my credit card for deposit, without telling you how much is that, neither telling you there will be a compulsory daily tax charge and a complementary laundry service and daily little gift etc. I didn’t know those things until the day before checkout, the same person told me: oh really? I didn’t tell you that? Smiley face. 3. 600+usd/night hotel room during ny eve, without toothbrush, slipper and others. Old furnishing. Tiny room space. Fine. We chose to stay here, take it! 4. During stay, my second night, came across leaking problem. What a miracle. Hot water dripping from ceiling directly to my face and mouth and pillow at 2am!!! After waiting for more than 1 hour, a guy finally came. By that time, the water turns from dripping to flowing. (I have a full length of video recording it) There was electric wires on the floor for God’s sake, and when I call the front desk, he didn’t even give you any safety suggestion or any advises. He didn’t even tell you: please pack your belongings. The only thing he told me is :please wait. 5. After changing the room, no hot air con. Called service again at 3am, he told me technician will come. waited for one other hour till 4am, nobody came. Then asked for a blanket, they sent for a thin sheet....super cold...oh it’s like sleeping by the street. 6. Before checkout, I tried to confirm with their staff for several things: 1. What’s my bill of my room. Answer: none, no consumption. 2. When the agreed compensated SPG points will come? Answer: few days. 7. After came back to China for 2 weeks. No spg points received, instead 2 bills on my credit card. Writing an email to them(yes, I asked for their business card as I felt really uncomfortable the staff their handling things quite unconcernedly), they told me, oh, those bill should be charged to agency, not you, a mistake, so sorry. ?????!!!!!!!But what if I didn’t ask your staff for an email address before I leave? What if I didn’t check my credit card bill? What if I didn’t write that email? 8. After 2 weeks, I still didn’t receive spg points. During which, I wrote 2 emails, I called SPG hotline three times. None, nothing happens. Such a horrible experience and such a terrible start of 2019. I used to stay in Conrad in New York before, much sweeter memory. Friendly advise before choosing this hotel: Service: expect less than you might imagine. Sight: surely nothing to view. Convenience: if you wanna see the crowds of tourists, then stay here. Comfort: sorry, I didn’t feel any. Decoration: old. Bed light is one day on, one day off, depends on the light’s own mood. Btw, I really wanna sue this hotel for defraud charging... all at least to file a complaint to senior management, but didn’t find a method. Anybody could tell me?

We always stay at the W Times Square when we visit New York. We get the Marvelous suite which has a living room as well as a separate bedroom and a bath and a half. We have taken our grandchildren and they sleep on the fold out sofa in the living room. This hotel , while in a noisy area, is the absolute best for attending plays and musicals which is why we always chose it! Great Mexican restaurant on the street level and a breakfast and lunch and dinner restaurant on the second floor.

"Just an average person checking out this swanky hotel"

I have heard about how the W hotels are swanky hip. For the pretentious type they will probably say its average, but for someone like me, it looked really swanky. I know hotel spaces in Manhattan are very small due to the price of property. This hotel made the most out of its limited space, their lobby was small and "cozy" yet very hip and modern. Its a busy lobby but the interiors were amazing. The entrance had a water feature that is "instagram worthy". From there you need to take an elevator to go to the lobby which has also a bar. The lighting was on the darker side which made it look like youre entering a club. Rooms were huge, we had a one bedroom suite, which had a living area with half bath and a bedroom with full bathroom. Amenities were bliss and the set up of the room was very simple and spacious. The view from our room was remarkable, it overlooked part of Times Square. I dont know what else to say, its a spacious room, clean and modern. All I really wanted was a nice view and a place to sleep in, so basically if thats all I wanted then it was a success.

You wake up and from your window you see all the images you have seen million times on TV from Times Square. Modern rooms with cool design and comfortable beds. Very good service from everbody and fantastic bar at the lobby. You step out and are in the center of the world. My only request would be to have 24 hours breakfast service for those with heavy jetlag that would love to eat pancakes at 5am. For the rest is a remarkable place to stay when in NY.
