"Great Location spoilt by dirty scruffy rooms"

Our first impression when arriving at The Roosevelt Hotel was nice lobby area but reception staff were quite rude and gave the feeling they couldn’t be bothered to even talk to us. We were given room 450 so off we went. As soon as you left the lobby/reception area the hotel seemed to step back into something from the 50’s and in fact reminded us of the Disney World ride Tower of Terror. The room was small dark dirty and in need of a total refurbishment. I opened the curtains to find the view of a roof full of generators at eye level and the noise was unbearable. Straight back down to the reception to advise them no way could I stay in that room. She tapped on her computer saying I don’t have anything else to give you. I insisted I couldn’t possibly stay in that room to which she said have a look at this room on the 12th floor so off I went again. As soon as I opened the door the smell of old foist scruffy room hit us immediately. Back down to the reception again and the look on the receptionists face as if to say oh no not her again. After once again saying she didn’t have anything else to give me and after 5 minutes tapping on her computer the door key cards were placed on the counter and I was told to look at room 1104. Off again in the lift and on opening the door although the room still didn’t seem clean it was slightly larger and by this time after travelling for 16 hours we just made do with the best of a bad bunch. On closer inspection the following day it was clearly visible this room hadn’t had a good clean in a very long time, black scum in the sink overflow and round the tap, cobwebs hanging, paintwork and wallpaper all in dyer need of a good deep clean and complete redecoration. Because we weren’t going to be in the room for long periods of time we ageed to just grin and bare it otherwise it was going to spoil our time in New York. Apart from the disappointment in the room the staff weren’t much better. From the bar staff to the gift shop to the door staff I don’t think anyone actually managed to muster up a smile. We didn’t let this spoil our time but it definitely was an unpleasant memory of the holiday. So I would recommend this hotel on the location alone and be sure to advise family and friends on the downside of the interior of the room and the attitude of the staff which lets what could be a great hotel down dramatically.

"No Roomservice"

Rooms and service are nice but it was a huge let down seeing that there wasn't any roomservice for diner. Some people just don't want to go out for dinner so this was definitely quite a let down for me. Also no coffee machine, water bottles or mini fridge etc in the room...

"DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEl THEY STEEL YOUR MONEY"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5
Reviewed January 18, 2019 NEW
I have never reviewed a hotel but feel so strongly about letting everybody know what a horrific hotel this is!! Booked flights and Hotel through Virgin. Paid over £2k for flights and 4 nights at the hotel only for the Roosevelt to take a further £1000 from our credit card without even notifying us, not even giving us a receipt or asking our authority! Now trying to get our money back through Virgin! Hotel staff amongst the rudest I have come across, on arrival waited 40 minutes for room as they couldn’t find our booking! No tea or coffee facilities in room. WiFi extortionate! Location was the only good thing about this hotel. Luckily we didn’t spend long there. Rooms very dated. Such a shame, my husband booked this for my 40th and has had nothing but hassle from this hotel, absolutely horrified when we received our credit card statement yesterday! We emailed the Roosevelt last night and as expected not even a response why they have taken £800 without informing us or giving us a receipt. We had our booking confirmation on arrival from Virgin as we booked and paid in 2017!! Such a shame, they have got everything so wrong at this hotel and I note that the response from managers on negative reviews is clearly scripted!! (Let’s see what BS excuse we get for them stealing our money!!) Stay well clear of this place! Don’t ruin your holiday!!!
