"Excellent value. Honest staff, found and returned $260 cash."

Oct 17th-18th. Flew in for a one day biz trip, picked hotel because of location near both Sotheby's and Christie's auction houses; and I needed a large safe which all rooms provide.. Prime location, excellent mid-range value. Reserved a single king, was given a spacious suite. Very clean and quiet, appreciated the blackout curtains. Facility is a bit dated but quite acceptable and excellent value for the money; staff friendly. Minor drawback: 110V outlets are old, found only one that could be used for chargers for cell phone. About six days later after returning to West Coast received a call that house keeping had found $260 cash that I had left in a nightstand drawer; and which they mailed to me. Very pleased to have dealt with the responsive and honest staff. Thanks much!!!

Sure the building is old and this is not the Ritz or Grand Hyatt, but I can not think of a better three star hotel in Manhattan. This is a great location, fantastic staff, and sizeable rooms. You may feel that you are in an apartment rather than a hotel, but for the price, this is unbeatable. Don't expect much in terms of facilities, no restaurant, fitness, or bar, but you definitely get the best in the category.

good service Room very big and comfortable Location excellent. Near to amenities. I liked the big rooms, I did not like the bathroom. The Hotel seems to be very old. Elevators too slow. Personnel quite kind.

"clean, spacious rooms in a prime location"

The Salisbury Hotel makes an excellent home base for a visit to Manhattan. Located in the middle of the block with separate subway lines at the end of each, the hotel is also two blocks from several bus lines (and Central Park) and across the street from Carnegie Hall. Rooms in Manhattan are notoriously tiny - my last one at a posh boutique was 90 square feet and I couldn't walk around the bed. The rooms at Salisbury used to be apartments, so our basic two-double-beds room was 280 square feet with a walk-in closet and small kitchenette that had a sink, microwave, coffee pot, and big mini-fridge. There was also a desk and two chairs. Our room overlooked the street, so we got a lot of city noise. If that bugs you, request a room facing the back of the hotel. While the rooms are definitely dated, they were exceptionally clean and included the basic amenities. There was an iron and hair dryer, coffee (to brew) was provided daily, and there was soap, shampoo, and lotion. If you prefer conditioner, bring it. We got ours at the drug store at the end of the block. The hotel does offer wi-fi for a daily fee. This is standard in NYC hotels - I visit twice yearly and haven't found free wi-fi at any hotel in the last 10 years. This hotel doesn't have many facility amenities - no fitness center, spa, or restaurant, but you can find all of those things within a block or two (or skip the gym and run in central park). The lobby was nice enough and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The elevators are old and there are only two of them - so expect a short wait. There was only one time in our five day stay it was an issue. I was reluctant to stay at this hotel because of the value - but I've paid much more for "nicer" hotels that weren't nicer at all. This is a basic, no-frills place, but you will get a clean, comfortable room with more room amenities than average for a good price. I highly recommend it and will gladly stay again during my next visit to NYC.

The suite is still the biggest space you will get in NYC for the price. However, so many things in our room did not work: hair dryer, bar faucet, faucet in bathroom made a very loud noise when in use and there was no couch in the living room. The heat was difficult to regulate. When we asked how to, they sent up an engineer who told us to use the air conditioning unit. What a waste of energy as it was 30 degrees outside and 80 in the room. We opened the window over 57th street and it was loud.
