Four women went for a 50th birthday celebration! We loved the Renaissance. The rooms had plenty of space, the bedding was comfy, and we have no complaints about the service. You are right there on Times Square among all the hustle and bustle. We enjoyed drinks in the bar a few nights. They were expensive but went toward a credit we had anyway. The view from the bar/restaurant is one the best views of Times Square available! One day, we were only given one bath towel, which was odd--but that we quickly rectified. The lobby being above the ground level floor is odd at first but you get used to it. To get to the rooms, you have to take an elevator up to the lobby, then take a different elevator to get to the rooms. We enjoyed our visit

We recently stayed at the Renaissance Times Square for the first time. We found the hotel to be surprisingly intimate and a nice retreat from the busy city. The lobby was warm and friendly, the restaurant excellent! The elevator got stuck but the staff was quick to respond and did everything in their power to make a positive out of a negative. As a past hotelier, I am very sensitive to customer service and empowering your employees..this property excels at both. Two super stars were Melvin the General Manager and a woman named Monet who I believe was a front office manager. My husband and I will definitely stay at this lovely hotel on a future trip.

My daughter and I went to New York for her birthday and stayed here and it was amazing. The staff was very helpful, the rooms were beautiful, clean and The large window of our room overlooked time square. We have stayed in several different hotels in time square and this one by far is our favorite. The room was large and very roomy and like others that we have stayed in. Highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

My worst experience in many many hotel nights in NYC The hotel is old, the lobby is tiny, the rooms are old and dirty, the shower have no pressure, the breakfast is terrible, the service is bad (20 min to get a cup of a very bad coffee at 6:45 am) And a ridiculous price: 1000 usd/ night! Even at 250$ it would have been overpriced Strange way to treat your ´elite ´ card holder I Would definitely NOT recommend this location

    "Great Pros and Bad Cons"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5

This review is difficult to write because the benefits entitle it to a five star rating, but the drawbacks make it a two star. So, I gave it three stars on average. Its pros are also its cons. 1. Location Pro: the hotel is located smack dab in the middle of Times Square. Con: the hotel is located smack dab in the middle of Times Square. The location is great for access to everything and is in the heart of the "action". This also means that it is very crowded outside the door, the lights and the noise also filter into the rooms. Just know this going in. 2. The lounge Pro: the lounge in this hotel is the reason that we chose to stay here. It has the most incredible view of times square and you feel like you are literally floating in the lights of the square. Just gorgeous. The main reason to stay at this hotel. Con: we stayed for four nights and the entire lounge area was completely closed to hotel guests for two of those nights due to private parties. Our first night there when i wanted my husband to see the view, the hotel staff would not even allow us in for one minute just to see it. We were told that "people paid a lot of money to book that room" so we were not allowed in. Well, we paid a lot of money to stay at this hotel just for that room that we were not allowed to enter. Ironic. 3. Breakfast Pro: breakfast is served in the lovely lounge with the great view of Times Square. Con: despite being told as Marriott Executive Elite members that breakfast was included, it is not included on weekends and costs approximately $50 per person for soggy eggs. The food was not good. Very little choice (small buffet area) and there was literally water running through the scrambled eggs. Also, always a long line to get in. From what we saw, a lot of that delay comes from staff inefficiency. We watched one hostess single handedly move tables around, clear dishes etc. while we waited to be seated at the free tables that were just sitting there. 4. The Rooms Pro: good size, clean, nice big bathroom with lots of towels and amenities. Con: walls are paper thin so you can't actually sleep if your neighbours chose not to. We were kept awake almost the entire night for 2 nights of our 4 night stay. Our room had a door to link the room to the neighbouring room (if you needed a double room for a family I guess). The door did not block ANY noise and we could hear the entire conversations of our neighbours at 3am. Room tip: ask for a room that does not have the adjoining door. 6. WIFI Pro: Free WIFI Con: Free WIFI didn't work about 60% of the time. We are in the center of the American universe. No idea how the hotel does not have reliable WIFI. This hotel has some really great aspects, but after paying to stay there twice over the past month, I am not sure it delivers on all fronts.
