"Plenty better..."

Booked this for proximity to our office. Location is great (once through NYC traffic) but the hotel is very average. It's always super busy. Check in can take ages. Staff seem overwhelmed and at times disinterred. It's also very expensive (even for NYC)... when should a breakfast ever cost $50... madness. Rooms need to be revamped. Wifi was useless. Gym is actually pretty good... big with lots of different equipment. Will avoid on my next trip.

The New York Hilton Midtown is a typical big city Hilton. It is centrally located near Times Square and the Broadway theaters and it is only about 20 blocks from Penn Station. We found the staff to all be very friendly, courteous, helpful and professional. But overall, we were disappointed for the following 3 reasons: 1. When we booked the room online months ago, we reserved a room with 2 queen beds. When we checked in, we were assigned a room with 2 double beds. When we asked for a room with queen beds, we were told that since the renovation, the hotel only has double beds. If that information was accurately provided online at the time of our booking, we would have chosen another hotel. 2. The Executive Lounge was closed during our stay. Although we were provided with certificates for drinks in the main lobby lounge to make up for it, we weren't looking for alcohol and would have preferred the Executive Lounge. 3. The air conditioning in our room was not functioning properly. The room was much warmer than the hallway and wouldn't cool down. Maintenance responded quickly and replaced a disgustingly dirty and dusty filter. Afterward, the a/c worked better but still wasn't adequate.

This hotel is in a great location for the Macy’s Parade, theatre and shopping. Most of the staff are very friendly and catering (especially the managers Mr. Boswell and Mr. Foster). I did have one encounter with an employee in the executive lounge that left a bad taste in my mouth. My guest and I were the only two African American faces in the executive lounge out of about 30 guest, the waiter for some odd reason believed that I should not be there and wanted to verify my room number and also if my guest had signed the beer tasting card. It was quite embarrassing! I complained to the manager who told the employee to apologize BUT he didn’t. He even argued with the manager. I just hope that they are more good employees working there than rotten ones because I plan on visiting the hotel again for the parade. Hoping for better service in the executive lounge! The rooms are small (Typical of NY) but clean. You will have a variety of restaurants and food to choose from on property with good food. As well as a variety within walking distance.

We had a package from Hilton Grand so we didn't choose our room; no fridge or coffee maker and a tv that froze were huge drawbacks. I had to ask three people where the vacation presentation was and how to get there. They also insisted that my email listed where the presentation would be, and I have five emails, none of which offer the information. I also received an email about my "upcoming " tour the day after it. I also didn't receive a bill printout the day of checkout, and when I asked for one at the main counter I was met with a very reluctant person who slowly printed my bill. The morning of checkout, we were locked out of our room after leaving the hotel for breakfast. Security came to check the lock and the battery had died. George from security called for someone with a master key and stayed with us, following up to ensure the key arrived as quickly as possible. He also made sure we received breakfast vouchers. Because we'd already gotten breakfast, I asked the person at the buffet (Susan, I believe ) if I could simply get a coffee. She brought me over to someone instructing he bring a coffee and a Coke to go, and he did so very quickly. These two employees were outstanding. The location is great for Broadway and Times Square activities as well as close enough to Central Park and some museums.

"Overpriced and old hotel in New York"

Disclaimer: This review is about this specific hotel and doesn't include Hilton's amazing customer service. We switched hotels the last night in NY because we had a voucher to stay at a Hilton hotel. We thought it would be a good idea since it's NY and it's a Hilton. What could go wrong? Well, first of all, our room was not ready at when we got there at 2:50 pm (We know the check-in is at 3 pm.) The Front Desk person told us that it wasn't clean yet. They offered us "an upgrade" to another room because they were construction going on in some floors (they say the hotel is going under renovation) so they gave us "a newly renovated" room. We accepted and when we got to the room it had a horrible smell. It was like a locker room, just horrible. The renovated room looked nothing like renovated. It was painted in a very sad color, with only one picture hanged on the wall. The TV was fine. Overall, only the bathroom looked kinda new, but nothing spectacular for the price you pay to stay there. There was an old blue couch with an ottoman that didn't add up to the ambiance. We called the Front Desk (took almost one hour to get a person to pick up the phone) and they changed us to another room (allegedly, away from the construction area). The new room was like the other one, a little bit bigger and no smell. We stayed, got ready to go to a play and got back to the hotel around midnight. Next morning, around 7 am, we woke up with the noise of hammering, drilling, people dragging things on the floor, it was horrible. Again, we called the Front Desk and told the person about the noise and acknowledge the problem. He transferred the call to the Manager who never picked up the phone. We didn't sleep after that. We have stayed at Hiltons before and this is the first time we have a problem like this. We called Hilton to leave feedback on our stayed and our representative was amazing. She managed everything very professional and was courteous. Hilton (the company, not this facility) has an amazing Customer Service.
