"Perfect room for two"
May, 2015
We showed up early before our room was ready so they held our bags for us while we explored New York and then called me when our room was ready. They actually got our room ready 2 hours before our check in time but let us check in early which was so nice! The room was perfect for two people and the New York traffic was barley existent while we were in our room which was very wonderful. The bed was so comfortable and the bathtub was deep and big enough for a romantic bubble bath with a glass of wine and chocolate covered strawberries from the shop down the street. It was such a wonderful stay and we are looking to stay there again on our next visit.

"It's historic!"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

This hotel can be found on the corner of 5th Ave and literally across the road from there Rockefeller Centre. As a location it's perfect, a 10 minutes walk and you are in Central Park. It is a historic building, so don't expect all the mod cons, but it does look slightly uncared for. Our bath soap dish looked dirty but was in fact scuffed and the paint finish round the doors was very untidy. Added to this is the obvious noise issues of having no double glazing, one night there and you totally get used to it, New York is a noisy city. So that's the negative, for the positive and the biggest asset this hotel has, the amazing staff. Have to give a huge shout out to Ryan who was so helpful all week, whether we needed directions or recommendations. So a bit of tlc and it will earn that 5th "star".

"Nice and old fashioned "
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

After you get over the garish yellow paint colour in the room, the charm of the old fashioned furniture grows on you. Bed was comfortable. Room and bathroom were clean. The only downside was noise from the street (but this is New York, so what would you expect..). bring a set of ear plugs and you'll be fine. The wifi was temperamental (room 601) and sometimes just wouldn't work. Not a big deal with cafes nearby.

"SUPER FIND!"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

I stayed here for 4 nights in August and it was SUPERB! I checked in with ease and the staff were friendly and attentive. I have only positive things to say about the workers here. The hotel itself was beautiful. I had seen reviews online saying rooms were small but I was very pleased with mine. IT IS NEW YORK! The place was very clean and had a beautiful balcony for residents to enjoy views over St. Patrick's Cathedral. Stunning. The room was cleaned well each day and the location was just PERFECT! Right opposite Rockafella. There were a few shops nearby for snacks/water as well as a few great restaurants within steps of the front door. VERY reasonably priced. Overall I would recommend this hotel to everyone and if I'm ever back in NYC I would definitely stay here again!

"CANCEL YOUR BOOKING NOW!!! If you have any Semele then you'll heed this warning from someone who is there at the moment"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5

Honestly! We're staying here now and booked 2 rooms for 4 nights. If you like jack hammer pneumatic drills starting outside your window at 11pm and continuing through the night then keep your booking, otherwise cancel and book elsewhere NOW! We've had 3 nights so far of unbearable noise and the hotel won't provide any recompense for the sleep disruption. They managed to move our 2 boys to a room at the back of the hotel last night at 11.30pm but they had to share a queen bed instead of having a bed to themselves as we had booked and paid for. Tonight, they have moved us all to rear bedrooms but our boys are having to share a bed again (which is not what we paid for). The customer service has been shocking. It's the worst I've ever experienced. The lady we were told was the general manager, Belitza, turns out to be just front of house and says she cannot make a decision to compensate us for the noise we've had and the issue with changing rooms. There's no empathy there whatsoever. She has told us tonight that her general manager has said that the hotel will not do anything to compensate for the jack hammer noise we've had and the lack of sleep, plus not actually getting what we have paid for anyway! Please take heed and book elsewhere, it's simply not worth it. UPDATE - we finally got Belitza to ring her general manager and she left him a voicemail where we also played a recording of the incessant jack hammer noise down the phone. We insisted on waiting for a response. Later she said she had also text messaged him. A little later she said that she had had a response from the manager offering some compensation. Very poor customer service in an industry that should be 100% customer service led. We've travelled all over America and experienced excellent customer service in the most unlikely tiniest of places and it's safe to say that this is the worst service and most arrogant attitude we've ever experienced from a hotel - the general manager needs to wake up and smell the coffee and realise that his business is all about his customers getting a good nights sleep.

"Great Location"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

Pros: - Close to Time Square - Close to Central Park - Close to Rockefeller Centre - Close to 5th Avenue Shopping - Close to St Patrick's Cathedral - Close to the American Girl Store - Close to many attractions - Quiet hotel - No busy crowds - Non tipping hotel, any fees are added to your account - Good Value for Money - Has a convenience store/pharmacy about 200m away - There is a burger joint just across the road if you have kids or something quick to eat - Has a business centre on the premises, that you can access to print documents or browse on the computer -The Reception are prompt with email replies - The staff are friendly and helpful - Bedroom was tidied daily, beds made, towels replaced, products replaced. - Room had a safe and fridge Cons: - Due to being a historical building, the furnishings are quiet dated, only an issue if you prefer a modern feel. - The bathroom doesn't have any bench space besides a little glass shelf, which is s hassle if you use hair straighteners or have various bathroom products. - The fold out bed springs on the sofa were quiet hard, which is a common problem on fold outs. Just be mindful as this can be uncomfortable for the person sleeping on it. - The aircon was quiet noisy and loud and we found it was a little temperamental, so sometimes when it was humid the room didn't really cool down. - We stayed in one of the larger suites and unfortunately our bedroom overlooked a business building. So everyone could see right into our window. The sheer curtains didn't hide much. I'm not sure if the bigger curtains were just decorative or if they closed, but we didn't try so I'm not sure. - For two days we didn't really have much access to wifi as it wouldn't connect, we tried all the traditional avenues trying to get it to work. The few days prior it connected great. - there was no microwave, which is really handy when you have children. - obviously due to certain building restrictions there is only so much that can be done, but the only other issue we found was the lighting was quiet dark. The room had many lamps, but one of them didn't work so the lighting wasn't great unless you turned on all 5 lights. Overall this is a good place to stay due to the price and great location. We have stayed here on two occasions. The first time it was just my partner and I, which we found was perfect for just the both of us. With a family I would possibly look at staying somewhere more child friendly. Somewhere that may have activities or a pool. Only due to the fact that my daughter was over all the walking by the second day and it would have been great to have something on site that she could have done. Thanks again for a pleasant stay 3 West Club!
