"Amazing Views and Yummy Food!"
September, 2016
We boarded for the Dinner Cruise and it was a perfect way to see the skyline at dusk with night lights. They have assigned seating for you and a server takes your drink order. Alcoholic drinks are available for an additional cost, but they have fun signature drinks to choose from. The food is served buffet style and is a large selection, I really enjoyed everything on the menu. You can leave your seat at any point and venture throughout the levels of the boat. This is perfect for any occasion and I would certainly do it again!

"Touring the Harbour"

Toured the sights of the harbour during a bitterly cold November Day. The trip was entertaining and the buffet was excellent. The only complaint was the dearth of staff serving drinks to a VERY large crowd of people. The wait staff were overwhelmed and could barely keep up with the orders, if at all. This trip on the water takes you to many of the major landmarks and provides a perspective that is unique to the land based views. It is worth the time and effort.

"Perhaps an off night, but not the greatest evening"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5

I was super excited for the holiday lights dinner cruise, but I was disappointed in the experience. Tickets were purchased online (paying extra to make sure we had a table for two and a window seat), but that extra cost was a waste....only 4-5 other tables were occupied on the floor where we were. Our online tickets indicated the ticket window would open two hours before departure for ticket pickup; however, the ticket window didn't open until AFTER time for the cruise to depart, leaving a long line of passengers standing outside in the rain, wind, and cold. The food was good, but the serving plates were dirty - guests continued throughout the evening to stack up the dirty plates on the buffet table. There was also a wire coat hanger lying on the buffet table, which I found odd. I'm hopeful it was an extremely off night and not the normal experience with this particular dinner cruise.

"very disappointing , not worth the money , poor service, over priced"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5
Reviewed December 20, 2018 NEW
The biggest disappointment ever !!!! We went as 2 couples to celebrate a 50th birthday, the cruise line were notified and it was never acknowledged . my friend was so sad. We told our waitress and she shrugged and walked away . We upgraded to the platinum open bar a waste of money and very ripped off. champagne on arrival none , we asked our ever so not helpful waitress and finally after 30 mins of sailing it came . Our friends on booking notified the cruise line of the shrimp cocktail as they did not like seafood and asked for a replacement ,our waitress said being thanksgiving there was no alternative as they had run out of food. !!! The bar service was appalling our waitress kept disappearing and both our husbands went to the bar to be served, to be told waitress service only and they were refused . during the cruise drinks were very sparce ,we had paid them and this business knew what they were doing . We went to a supervisor on the boat she was as useful as a chocolate fireguard ! and equally as rude as the young waitress!!! The buffet food BOUNTIFUL BUFFET was vile cold and not enough , we were the last table to be called and there was little left. Entertainment was for young only , did not cater to older couples. This trip was so expensive , these are cowboys fleecing tourists . DONT BOOK THIS TRIP. They dont care and have no empathy for their clients.

Frequently Asked Questions about Spirit Cruises of New York

What is "Boarding Time" and "Cruising Time?"
"Boarding Time" is the earliest our guests may board the ship. Typically we begin boarding 1/2 hour prior to the "Cruise Time." Tickets are picked up at our dockside kiosk up-to one hour prior to the cruise.

What is the recommended dress code?
For men, appropriate attire includes slacks and a polo or button-down shirt. For women, nice slacks, capri pants or a sundress is recommended. Although allowed, we strongly discourage collarless t-shirts, jeans, shorts or athletic shoes.

Are there any age requirements?
Children are welcome on almost all our cruises. Children under 3 are complimentary and a discount is offered for children between the ages of 3 and 12 on select Lunch Cruises. We DO NOT offer Children’s pricing on dinner cruises.

Is the ship handicap accessible?
Yes. The Spirit has a deck and restrooms that can accommodate most standard-sized wheelchairs. Our crew is happy to aide passengers that need assistance. You can call in advance to discuss any accessibility concerns and ensure that you are seated on an accessible deck.

Is the vessel Coast Guard certified?
Yes. All of our ships are Coast Guard certified and maintained regularly to adhere to strict safety regulations.

Will I get seasick?
It's unlikely. The ships operate in New York Harbor, on the Hudson River and the East River, which are all very calm bodies of water. What's more, our ships are large and very stable, so in most cases, you can hardly tell that they're moving.

How is seating arranged on board?
Both the Spirit of New York and the Spirit of New Jersey feature cruise style seating. While we do offer tables for two, the majority of our tables accommodate four to eight people, and guests are sometimes seated with other parties in the tradition of ocean-going cruises.

What is your smoking policy?
All interior areas of our ship are non-smoking areas. Passengers who smoke may do so on the outdoor observation decks.

Do you sail in inclement weather?
Absolutely. Our ships are fully enclosed and climate-controlled for your comfort. We sail rain or shine year round.
